Of all the equipment we ship to Armenia, a snowmobile is the most straightforward at customs. There is one duty rate regardless of age and no recycling fee. The questions lie elsewhere: how Armenian tax law treats snowmobiles and whether one needs to be registered. We go through it step by step and flag separately what we treat as settled and what we confirm in the estimate.
Mountains, yes, but what about the season
Almost all of Armenia sits high: the average elevation is about 1,800 metres above sea level, there are no lowlands, and Lake Sevan lies at around 1,900 metres (Britannica). We found no reliable open data on the length of the snow season by region or on snowmobile routes, so we do not promise "six months of riding". We match the model to the specific place and the job you describe: work, touring or deep-snow riding.
The general import rules are the same for any vehicle. Armenia is an EAEU member: duty is charged under the union's Common Customs Tariff, and import VAT under the Armenian Tax Code is 20%. The code has no recycling fee; cars are instead subject to an age-based environmental tax. For passenger cars, see our article on importing a car from Canada to Armenia.
5% duty with no age scale
Snowmobiles with a piston internal combustion engine are classified under subheading 8703 10 110 0 — "vehicles specially designed for travelling on snow". The rate is 5%, and unlike cars and ATVs there is no split between new and used. Electric snowmobiles, such as the Ski-Doo Expedition Electric and Grand Touring Electric in our stock, fall under "other", 8703 10 180 0, at the same 5% (EAEU CCT, Chapter 87).
The practical consequence: there is no point choosing a used snowmobile to save on duty. It will be 5% of value either way, with no minimum in euros per cubic centimetre.
For an individual the mechanism is the same as for a company. Snowmobiles are named explicitly in EEC Council Decision No. 107 among goods subject to a combined customs payment, not the "flat rate" familiar from passenger cars (EEC Decision No. 107). Duty and VAT are the same, just paid as one sum.
Charges summary table
| Charge | 2026 rate | Source |
|---|---|---|
| EAEU HS code | 8703 10 110 0 — combustion-engine snowmobile; electric — 8703 10 180 0 | EAEU CCT, Ch. 87 |
| Duty | 5%, the same for new and used | EAEU CCT, Ch. 87 |
| VAT | 20% | Tax Code of RA, Art. 63 |
| Excise | The SRC calculator includes excise for heading 8703; whether it applies to a snowmobile is confirmed in the estimate | exim.src.am |
| Recycling fee / environmental tax | No recycling fee in the Tax Code. The environmental tax applies to "motor cars" of 8702–8705 older than 5 years: none on a new snowmobile; applicability to a used one is confirmed in the estimate | Tax Code of RA, Art. 171 |
| Customs fee | Amount confirmed in the estimate | — |
What remains open, and how we handle it
There are three items we deliberately do not present as settled figures.
- Environmental tax. Article 171 of the Armenian Tax Code words it for "motor cars" of headings 8702–8705, and under the tariff a snowmobile also belongs to 8703. Whether the line extends to snowmobiles does not clearly follow from the text. For a new snowmobile the question is moot: in the table the tax starts with vehicles older than 5 years. For a used one we establish this before purchase.
- Excise. The official calculator of Armenia's State Revenue Committee computes duty, VAT, excise, environmental tax and state fee for heading 8703 but does not disclose the rates. So we confirm the excise for a snowmobile on the specific unit.
- Customs fee. The figures we found are either outdated or from secondary sources. We will not publish them; the fee appears as a separate line in the estimate.
All three items appear in the estimate explicitly rather than being hidden under "other costs".
Certification under TR CU 010
Snowmobiles are on the list of products subject to mandatory certification under technical regulation TR CU 010/2011 "On the Safety of Machinery and Equipment": the annex explicitly names "all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and trailers for them". The standard for snowmobiles is GOST R 50944-2011. From 1 April 2028 this annex will apply in a new wording, so at purchase we check which version the certificate is issued under (TR CU 010/2011).
Plates and property tax
Armenian Government Decision No. 1251-N provides a "type 2" number plate for tricycles, quadricycles, motorcycles and snowmobiles. At the same time, as a general rule, registration applies to vehicles intended for public roads, while vehicles used on closed premises off the roads are not registered (Decision No. 1251-N). Whether a snowmobile that never goes on the road must be registered does not clearly follow from the text. We settle this question before purchase based on how you plan to use the machine.
The official translation of the Armenian Tax Code sets the property tax for snowmobiles at 150 drams per horsepower per year. We check the current wording when preparing the estimate.
Which Ski-Doo for which job
- Deep snow and mountain terrain — Summit X: REV Gen5 platform, 154–165″ track, Rotax 850 E-TEC or 600R depending on trim. For experienced riders — Freeride with the Rotax 850 E-TEC Turbo R; for beginners — Summit NEO with a short wheelbase.
- Trail with off-piste detours — Backcountry with a 146″ track or Renegade with a 137″ track.
- Work and hauling — Skandic LE with a wide 20″ track and a four-stroke Rotax 900 ACE Turbo R or 600. For touring with cargo — Expedition.
- Hunting and fishing — Tundra with a narrow 154″ track and the economical Rotax 600 EFI.
- Quiet running — Expedition Electric or Grand Touring Electric with the Rotax E-Power electric motor.
All models are in our snowmobile catalogue. Why we see Canadian Ski-Doo as the right starting point is explained in our article on Ski-Doo snowmobiles from Canada.
Shipping, and when to decide
The snowmobile travels in a container by sea from our Canadian warehouse to a Georgian port — Poti or Batumi — then by road through Georgia to Armenia. More on how shipping works is on our shipping page. Model year 2027 units are already in our stock and in transit. We give the timing for a specific sailing at booking, so our one piece of advice is to decide before the season starts rather than in the middle of it.
We ship only Canadian equipment, new or used with a clean history, with no auction lots. Snowmobile prices are on request. Before purchase we prepare a complete estimate: duty, VAT, certification, delivery and the open items listed above. To get a calculation, send a request.
Rates are current as of October 2026 and may change. The final calculation is made on the date of customs clearance.
