Sourcing, purchase, sea freight and turnkey customs clearance. The import rules changed in 2026 and the charges went up — which is why we calculate the full cost before you buy, so the final figure is not a surprise at the port.
An individual bringing in one car for personal use used to pay the recycling fee at a token reduced rate regardless of engine power. Since 2026 the relief is tied to the engine — and it no longer covers most of the cars people actually want.
3,400 roubles for cars under three years old and 5,200 roubles for older ones. The conditions are strict: personal use only, no more than one car a year, displacement under three litres, and the car cannot be sold for a year after registration. For electric vehicles and hybrids the threshold is lower still — 80 hp.
Even for personal import the commercial formula applies: a base rate multiplied by a coefficient for displacement, power and age. The sums differ from the reduced rate by orders of magnitude. We deliberately do not publish specific figures — the tables in circulation disagree with each other, and an error here is far too expensive. We calculate for your car on the date of import.
From 1 April 2026 the rules for private individuals and companies were equalised for imports from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia. Registering a car in a neighbouring country at an understated value and driving it into Russia no longer works. If that route is offered to you as a saving, the information is out of date.
| Charge | How it is calculated |
|---|---|
| Customs duty | At the flat personal-use rate: depends on age, engine displacement and value. For cars under 3 years old — a share of the value with a floor in euros per cc; for older cars — a fixed rate in euros per cc |
| Clearance fee | On a scale based on customs value: from 1,231 to 73,860 roubles |
| Recycling fee | Reduced rate for engines up to 160 hp and under 3 litres, otherwise the commercial formula |
| Electronic vehicle passport | 600 roubles |
| VAT and excise | An individual importing for personal use pays neither. Excise arises only for electric vehicles |
| ERA-GLONASS | Not yet required for cars imported by individuals — the moratorium has been extended. We check the status on the date of each shipment |
Rates and methodology are revised periodically. The final figure is calculated on the date of import for the specific vehicle.
Plainly: we carry no car below 160 hp — the most modest is the Toyota GR86 at 228 hp. So the reduced fee does not apply and we calculate at the commercial rate. But charges are only part of the equation, and demand for Canadian cars has not gone anywhere. Here is why.
The Toyota Land Cruiser and Sequoia in Canadian specification, the Lexus TX and GX 550 Overtrail, the GR86 and GR Supra — some of these are not sold in Russia at all, others arrive in noticeably leaner versions. People go after cars like these regardless of the fee.
The Canadian market gives you richer equipment for less than the European one: what is a paid option in Europe is standard here. That difference in the price of the car itself offsets part of the higher charges — and we show it in the estimate rather than hiding it.
The alternative on this market is usually a US auction car with a rebuilt body. The difference in charges pales next to the difference in what you actually receive. Every vehicle we sell comes with a Carfax Canada report.
Body-on-frame SUVs and models not officially sold in Russia. Plus Ski-Doo snowmobiles and Can-Am ATVs — assessed on their own scale rather than the car one.
A large share of "from America" offers are Copart, IAAI and Manheim cars: insurance write-offs, flood cars, vehicles rebuilt after serious impacts. We take only new cars and clean used ones from the Canadian market.
Every car comes with a Carfax Canada report — service history and incident records are visible before you transfer any money.
Ski-Doo and Sea-Doo are built in Valcourt, Quebec; so is Can-Am. We ship them directly, without intermediate distributors and their mark-up.
We calculate the full turnkey budget in advance — duty, clearance fee, recycling fee and logistics. No "we'll clarify at the port".
Send us the model and your city and we will prepare a turnkey calculation under the current methodology: the price of the car, shipping, duty and the recycling fee as a single figure. No "we'll clarify at the port".
A detailed breakdown of the reform and every charge is in a separate guide: importing a car from Canada to Russia in 2026.
